Following the release of Everest Forms version 1.8.6, we’re introducing the new Everest Forms Calculations add-on to our extensive collection of premium add-ons.
So, walk with us as we guide you on everything you need to know about the Calculations add-on. We’ll also provide a brief tutorial on using this extension for the core Everest Forms plugin.
Let’s get started!
An Overview of the Everest Forms Calculations Add-on
In simple words, the Everest Forms Calculations add-on lets you perform mathematical calculations between two or more form fields. The calculated result is then displayed in a third field.
You just need to enable the calculation feature and add calculation expressions with fields and operators.
And the best part? The calculation actually happens in real-time, meaning the result is visible as soon as the user enters the values to be calculated in the form fields.
Now, you might be wondering what type of forms require such calculations. Well, a prevalent example would be interest calculators placed on banking websites. This calculation form allows visitors to calculate the interest for a particular sum on their own.
Likewise, you can use the calculation feature to create BMI calculators, order and billing forms, ROI calculator forms, etc.
Given its extensive usage, you can see why we wanted to introduce our own Calculations add-on for WordPress forms. We’re sure that it’ll help our customers create any type of calculator form they require for their business.
Don’t know where to start? Let us begin by helping you set up the Calculations add-on on your website first. We’ll then show you how to create a form that performs simple calculations using the add-on.
How to Properly Set Up the Everest Forms Calculations Add-on?
If you’re a premium Everest Forms user, you must be familiar with the add-ons and how to install them on your site.
And if you’re not, no worries. We’ll provide a brief look into how you can set up the Calculations add-on below.
1. Install the Free Everest Forms Plugin
Before using the add-on itself, you need the free Everest Forms plugin installed on your WordPress website. Every other add-on Everest Forms provides sits on top of this core plugin to extend its capabilities.
So, log in to your WordPress dashboard and open Plugins >> Add New. Here, search for the plugin and click the Install Now button when it appears in the search results.
After that, press the Activate button to complete the installation process.
You’ll then be directed to a welcome page, where you can choose to watch the video guide, read the full guide, or start creating a custom form.
2. Buy a Premium Plan for Everest Forms Pro
Since the Calculations add-on is a premium extension, you’ll need the premium version of Everest Forms, i.e., Everest Forms Pro.
The premium version comes with 4 pricing plans: Personal, Plus, Professional, and Agency. Note that the add-on is only available in the Professional and Agency plans.
Just click on the Get Started button for any of the two pricing plans. After you complete the purchase, you’ll get your Everest Forms login credentials at the email address you’ve provided.
So, all you need to do is log in to your WPEverest account and find the Downloads tab. Download the Everest Forms Pro file and go back to your WordPress dashboard.
Open Plugins >> Add New again and click the Upload Plugin button at the top. This lets you upload the Everest Forms Pro file you previously downloaded.
Complete the installation by installing and activating the file.
You also need to activate the license key for the premium product. You’ll find this key under the License Keys tab in your WPEverest account.
Just copy the key and open the Plugins page in the WordPress dashboard. Then, paste it into the field under Everest Forms Pro and hit enter.
3. Install and Activate the Calculations Add-on
With the premium plugin installed, you can now set up the Calculations add-on. Similar to Everest Forms Pro, you’ll find the add-on’s download file under Downloads in your WPEverest account.
Download and install it on your website from Plugins >> Add New >> Upload Plugin.
Finally, activate the add-on, and you’re all set!
How to Use the Add-on to Perform Field Calculations?
We guess you’re now well-versed in setting up the Everest Forms Calculations add-on. But what about using this add-on to perform field calculations on any form created with Everest Forms?
You can visit its official documentation page to learn all the ways you can use this add-on. For now, let’s look at the basics of using the calculations feature in a custom form.
1. Create a New Form
Naturally, you’ll need a custom form with fields to apply the calculations. So, begin by opening Everest Forms >> Add New in your WordPress dashboard.
Once you click on it, a pop-up asks you to name the form. Try using a clear name like Simple Calculation Form, then press the Continue button.
You’ll be taken to the Everest Forms drag-and-drop form builder, which looks like this.
Just drag the required fields from the Add Fields section on the left and drop them into the blank spaces on the right.
If you need a new row, just click the Add Row button.
For now, drag and drop three Number fields into the form. Out of these three, we’ll use two to provide the values to be calculated, and the third field will be used to display the result.
With the fields added, press the Save button on top to save the form.
2. Enable Calculations for the Result Field
Now, you need to enable the form you’ve created to perform the necessary calculations. And for that, you must turn on the calculations feature for the field where the calculation result is to be displayed.
Simply click on the result field, and its Field Options will appear on the left panel.
From here, you’re able to customize the field’s Label, Description, etc., along with its Advanced Options. And if you need to make the field conditional, you can do so from the Conditional Logic section.
You’re free to do this with all the form fields you’ve used.
As you scroll down the Field Options for the Result field, you’ll see the Calculations options; click on it. Now, tick the checkbox to enable the calculation.
Next, click Save and reload the page. Once again, click on the result field and open the Calculations option.
You’ll now see some extra options in this section. Therefore, you can set the number of decimal places you want the result to display. Right below are the expressions or fields and operators you can use for the calculation.
Simply click the ‘<>’ icon and select the first field. Next, choose an operator, say, ‘+,’ and select the second field.
The exact operation is visible in the text box below.
Finally, click Save, and your calculation fields are ready. To check if the feature is working correctly, hit the Preview button.
Enter the values for the two fields, and the correct result should appear in the result field.
And that’s it! You’ve successfully created a simple calculation form.
With the new Everest Forms Calculations add-on, any type of WordPress calculation form is possible, whether ROI calculators or interest calculators.
The brief introduction to the add-on plus our guide to setting up and using the add-on should help you get started with this tool quickly.
